Fish River Steel Pipeline Construction
TCM Civil was awarded by State Water the contract to replace approximately 3.7 klm’s of prestressed concrete pipeline with steel pipeline for the Fish River Water Supply Scheme.
Construction commenced in July 2011 with the expected completion in June 2012. Construction includes:
- • Construction of 0.66 km long steel OD 914 – RRJ pipeline,
- • 2.5 km long steel OD762 – RRJ pipeline,
- • 0.6 km long steel OD762 welded
- • 3 creek crossings
- • Pipeline grades exceeding 45%
The Fish River site is situated at Duckmaloi which is 13 klms east of Oberon. The terrain is steep and rocky which imposes quite a few challenges for the crews. The project runs continuously along steep slopes (over 45%), which makes construction extremely difficult. New methodologies of winching pipes have been developed. Construction is progressing well with by Christmas nearly 3 klm’s being completed.
Environmental monitoring efforts through the successful planning, implementation and field monitoring are proving effective in minimising adverse environmental impacts during construction. The sharing of ideas and concerns through discussions with State Water, crews and land holders continues to contribute to successful environmental management of activities.
